DISCIPLINE AND VIGILANCE NEEDED TO KEEP EVERYONE SAFE AND KIDS PLAYING HOCKEY.

VSAHA Members,

In an effort to continue our hockey season, we need this message to reach all members of VSAHA. During our latest monthly meeting, Tuesday 11/10, the current VT ACCD 9.1 Guidance and the VSAHA Return to Play document were reviewed.  The VT ACCD shows a 34% increase in cases in the Northeast since last week, and while Vermont continues to have the lowest positivity rate in the country - cases rose 46% this week.

We have seen some states shut down hockey for periods of time due to significant cases, we could be next. Our government officials continue to deal with new cases in our communities and have been tracking the impact of the Central Vermont Civic Center case for several weeks as well as other spreads.  Over the past few weeks, the VT ACCD has already fielded complaints from concerned citizens about some social gatherings related to hockey. Today the governors from seven states published a statement suspending interstate travel for hockey teams. People are taking note of the hockey community and will continue to monitor and report on our adherence to the published guidance.

As we are all working extremely hard to keep our kids on the ice, there are significant concerns about social gatherings outside our arenas. We appreciate the work our volunteers and rink staff have put into setting up systems and protocols, but we need to remain vigilant and follow the Health Department’s guidelines. Please understand that socializing in the parking lots while your kids skate will do nothing but hurt our cause.

Please continue to practice social distancing, proper mask wearing, and support the guidelines referred to above. I thank you for cooperation throughout this season and your dedication to our youth hockey players.
